Has the BMW i4 been around to need a refresh? Apparently so, this electric BMW compact car will receive some upgrades for the 2025 model year.
Among the upgrades to this electric BMW are styling changes that relate to the upgrades being made to the gas-powered counterparts. Some of these changes include new exterior design elements that you might not see at first. These improvements include new headlights, taillights with laser-lit accents, new exterior colors, and new wheel options.
Are there any interior upgrades?
The i4 doesn’t stop with some simple tweaks to the exterior, this electric sedan has a few interior improvements as well. Some of these improvements include a new steering wheel design, new trim options, such as brushed aluminum and various open-pore wood finishes, and the BMW iDrive 8.5 interface. You’ll see a new 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, and a 14.9-inch touchscreen for the infotainment system.
These interior upgrades also come with upgraded connectivity through Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, which are now standard for this EV. You’ll also see a new head-up display to help you keep your attention on the road and driving while behind the wheel.
The former base model appears to be gone
The BMW i4 configurator doesn’t list the single-motor RWD i4 eDrive35 as an option. This makes us think the base model for this electric sedan is likely the eDrive40 model, which also uses a single motor and RWD as the base trim.
If this is the new base model for this electric sedan, it’s a pretty good choice. The eDrive40 has 335 horsepower and a driving range of 318 miles compared to 301 for the previous version.
Above the eDrive40 model is the dual-motor AWD xDrive40, which has a driving range of 287 miles. This is a reduction from 307 or the 2024 model year. This seems odd, considering the dual-motor version still produces 396 horsepower. If you want to go sporty, a dual-motor M50 has 267 miles of driving range and 536 horsepower, making it one of the most exciting electric sedans in this class.

The best features of the BMW i4 help make this car more enjoyable and convenient to drive. Here are a few of them:
Pre-Conditioning
Several electric cars offer pre-conditioning to bring the cabin temperature to a set level while the vehicle is connected to a charger. The advantage for the i4 is the addition of a nano-fiber filtering in the climate system to purify the air before you get in and head out for a drive.
iDrive 8.5
This upgraded BMW infotainment system takes things to the next level by adding over-the-air updates and a faster processor. This system still includes voice control, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and USB-C ports.
One-Pedal Driving
BMW improved upon the traditional one-pedal regenerative braking system by developing an adaptive system that intelligently adjusts the amount of regeneration based on needs and driving conditions. This is a new take on this feature, and it’s part of the new 2025 BMW i4.
Could the new BMW i4 be the right electric sedan for you? This new model has a few updates, but it’s still mostly the same as the 2024 version.
