Exploring Honda’s New Series 0 EV Prototypes

With more electric and hybrid vehicles for sale than ever before, some automakers like Honda are looking for new ways to offer something bold and different.

Honda recently reconfirmed its commitment to creating a lineup of bold and exciting EV models. The first Honda 0 series SUV is expected to launch in the North American market by 2026. Let’s take a look at what’s in store for the 0 Series.

Futuristic Style Meets Advanced Driver Systems

Honda revealed its plans for the 0 Series by showcasing the Saloon and Space-Hub models at CES. Both models featured an interesting wedge-shaped design, with the Saloon especially looking like something out of a science-fiction movie. The unveiling of the 0 SUV and the 0 Saloon prototypes is coming at this year’s Las Vegas tech fest. The Saloon looks more or less the same as the previous concept, but the 0 SUV is less outlandish than before.

Instead, the 0 SUV ditches the boxy MPV shape and goes with a traditional SUV front end combined with a sweeping rear end. Honda claims that the 0 SUV will make its debut in the North American market by early 2026. The low-riding, long-bodied Saloon should arrive shortly after. Global markets such as Japan and Europe are expected to get both vehicles.

Thin, Light, and Wise Philosophy

Honda’s new battery philosophy aims to reduce the size and weight of battery packs to make lighter, more elegant, and more efficient EV models. However, Honda didn’t reveal any battery specs on the upcoming Series 0 vehicles, but the company emphasized the Wise part of the philosophy, saying that it had developed an in-house operating system. The new system is called Asimo OS, and it will allow for Level 3 eyes-off automated driving.

You might recall the Asimo robot that often appeared in commercials for the brand. Honda says that the robot’s brain is part of the basis for developing the latest operating system. The new robotics technology is used to recognize human behavior and external environments. More reliable driver assistance systems are in the near future.

Honda Returns To a Bold Outlook

Honda hasn’t confirmed much in terms of technical details for the upcoming 0 Series, which is expected to include seven unique models by 2030. However, it’s easy to see that the automaker is going all in on bold styling and advanced tech. In other words, it appears that Honda is serious about developing bold and unique EV models.

The Honda E was debatably ahead of its time, but since then, the brand has stagnated somewhat with a series of basic vehicles from its ICE line to its electric and hybrid vehicles for sale. Fortunately, it seems like the time is right for Honda to offer vehicles that are both reliable and exciting.

For Honda enthusiasts and those always looking forward to the latest tech, the upcoming Series 0 vehicles appear to hint at a bolder design strategy from Honda. Hopefully, the performance will match the striking styling.
