The new GMC Sierra 1500 has a lot of positives, including impressive towing ability, many configuration possibilities, and top-notch camera tech. Deciding between it and the nearly identical Chevrolet Silverado mostly comes down to style preferences. Much of what’s offered on the Sierra is the same as the Silverado. However, Sierra stands out in its Denali trims.
Is the GMC Sierra 1500 New For 2025?
The 2025 GMC Sierra is part of the same generation that was introduced in 2019. It was refreshed for the 2022 model year, and so far, GM hasn’t revealed any plans for another significant update in the near future. The 2025 Sierra still has a few new updates, though, including 22-inch wheels. Otherwise, it’s almost a total carryover from 2024. That truck had one major change, which was the AT4X trim getting the Duramax diesel as its standard engine.
How Many Layout Options Are Available?
Just like the Chevrolet Silverado, the GMC Sierra 1500 is available in a dizzying array of layouts, trims, and options. You can get a single cab, double cab, or four-door crew cab to start. There are also bed lengths between 5.8 and 8.2 feet. Finally, there are eight models to choose from, starting with the Pro base trim and going up to the ultra-luxe Denali Ultimate. All trims come with 4WD either as an option or standard. Four different engine options are also available.
You Won’t Lack Power in a GMC Sierra 1500
One thing you won’t lack in the Sierra 1500, no matter which model or layout you choose, is power. Even the base 2.7-liter turbo four-cylinder makes up to 310 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque. Above that, there are two V8 options with an output of 355 horsepower and 420 horsepower, respectively. The light-duty six-cylinder diesel engine makes 305 horsepower, but it generates 495 pound-feet of torque.
Dedicated Off-Road Variants
The Sierra 1500 might not have anything to match up with the speedy Ford F-150 Raptor, but it does have two rugged off-road trims with a host of upgrades. Starting with the AT4 trim, you’ll get a two-inch suspension lift and several other pieces of equipment to make your life easier on the trails. The AT4X matches many features of the Chevrolet Silverado ZR2, including its electronic-locking front and rear differentials, extra skid plates, and aggressive off-road tires on 18-inch wheels. Add the AEV package, and you’ll also get a steel front bumper with a winch and steel rock sliders.
The 2025 GMC Sierra 1500 Offers Loads of Cabin Creature Comforts
The 2025 GMC Sierra 1500 features a driver-focused design in the cabin. The controls are all within easy reach, and the materials are quality at every level but go up in quality the higher the trim. The Denali Ultimate is the most luxe trim in the lineup. It features wood trim, leather-covered surfaces everywhere, and massaging front seats. Storage cubbies are also everywhere, so you’ll never lack spots to put your stuff.
Ultimately, the GMC Sierra 1500 is a nicely capable truck at every level, and it offers something for just about every buyer.
